The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a tactical aircraft capable of operating from rough, dirt strips and is the prime transport for paradropping troops and equipment into hostile areas. The C-130 had its maiden flight on August 23, 1954. The C-130H variant of the Hercules is an intratheater airlift. The aircraft remains active for widespread use with the U.S Air Force and with many other foreign air forces. The first C-130H was deployed in April 1955. An improved C-130H Hercules was introduced in 1974. The C130H’s first deliveries started in 1964 (to the RNZAF), remaining in production until 1996.
